Fortnite is an ultra-popular game in which Epic Games regularly enjoys integrating elements of pop culture, in addition to offering several different experiences. It is important to remember that it is and remains a video game. Thus, for Chapter 7 - Season 4, the development team has decided to fully embrace the video game world by introducing hacks... But also and above all many collaborations that pay tribute to several iconic licenses, including Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Tetris, Kingdom Hearts, Cyberpunk, Persona 5 Royal, Spyro the Dragon, Street Fighter, and Crash Bandicoot, to name just a few.

The season honoring the video game universe

One of Fortnite's strengths is clearly the regular addition of licensed content that allows the integration of characters, universes, and elements from pop culture in the broadest sense, not to mention the collaborations set up as part of the Fortnite Festival. Just recently, we had the Gotham Sirens (Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy), John Wick, characters and accessories from the Star Wars universe for May 4th, or the integration of ultra-popular licenses like Stranger Things, South Park or The Simpsons, to name just a few. Of course, from time to time, the development team adds skins and other elements from licenses in the video game universe. This was the case last May with the addition of heroes from Overwatch

With Chapter 7 - Season 4, Override as it's nicely called, Epic Games takes a new step. Indeed, this new season pays tribute to more than 45 years of video games, thus referencing titles from the 80s to today. Imagine, you can slip on Sonic's Power Sneakers and speed through Green Hill Zone, an iconic level of the license. You can see clouds taking the shape of Pac-Man ghosts or create a rift that implants Tetris shapes on the map. To start this tribute, as you have understood, Sonic the Hedgehog is primarily highlighted, thus allowing to celebrate the end of its 35th anniversary in style.

He is also the star of the Battle Pass which allows you to unlock his outfit, in addition to those of Geno, Grace Crowne, Phantom, Kitty Wins, Mali, Wrixel, and Bastian. Other elements are to be unlocked, including the Tails back accessory. Rest assured, many surprises await you throughout the season as the shop will be full of elements. As for licenses, you can expect content featuring Kingdom Hearts, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Persona 5 Royal, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, 99 Nights in the Forest, Spyro (retro version), Crash Bandicoot, and many more.

Cheating is bad... But not always...

Beyond the pleasing references, this new season will mainly introduce the possibility of activating hacks to modify the rules. After all, those over 30 surely remember the cheat codes used in several games to disrupt established principles. Perfect balance in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, a code for unlimited ammo, a Big Head mode, etc., so many memories already surface. Thus, in each game of the season, players can find hacker consoles. If you manage to get your hands on one, you take control of the server's rules. Teams can also benefit from rare hacks that are dedicated to them. Only these last ones benefit, but there is a downside: their position is then displayed on the map, making them more visible and therefore vulnerable.

To give you an idea of the game aids that can disrupt the course of a match, let's say that Midas' masterpiece pistol allows you to eliminate enemies with a single headshot. If you're more into Mega-Man, then the Mega Buster will help you take opponents offline. Other surprises will be added throughout the season, starting with the Kingdom Key from Kingdom Hearts or Rebecca's weapons from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Finally, let's specify that this season stands out from the previous ones by reintegrating the Sprites system.
