The years go by, but Rainbow Six Siege remains a true anchor point in the video game universe, the game continuing to evolve since December 2015, as evidenced by the major update R6 Siege X released for the 10th anniversary and the various seasons deployed. Nevertheless, Ubisoft is still keen to develop the license and has proven it several times, notably with the release of SMOL, a top-down shooter with an isometric view, mixed with rogue-lite aimed at players on iOS and Android subscribed to Netflix... But also with the release of Rainbow Six Mobile, a true pocket experience that has nothing to envy to that available on PCs and consoles. This time, a brand new game is announced: Rainbow Six Tactics.

When Ubisoft pushes all the tactical aspect sliders

Rainbow Six Siege is a purely multiplayer-oriented title that pits attackers against defenders. Even if the game takes the form of an FPS, it stands out from the competition with its very tactical orientation. To win, team members really need to complement and coordinate with each other. Soon, Ubisoft Paris, which is in charge of the project, will offer a solo experience called Rainbow Six Tactics. The name is unequivocal, it will indeed be a tactical game, and turn-based. The development studio will push all the sliders to the max. Playable solo, it will invite players to embody "Six," the commander of the Rainbow unit. This will be a first in the history of the franchise!

Of course, on the ground, we will find elite teams formed of up to four agents. It will be the players who will have to guide them in the missions. Don't expect to go headlong, the title should be punishing. It will therefore be necessary to prepare your assaults, plan each action, and above all coordinate them. Unexpected events being an integral part of high-risk missions, it will be imperative to adapt and anticipate the evolution of situations. It will be an opportunity to find the DNA of the R6 series with a different approach. Of course, everyone will find elements of the universe, starting with gadgets, destructible environments, and 15 agents from R6 Siege with their own skills. Each agent will even have their own progression tree.

Thus, over the course of the games, it will be possible to review the squads to create new synergies better suited to certain situations. After all, the campaign will consist of dozens of missions with varied objectives ranging like bomb defusal, target elimination or, for example, hostage rescue. The DNA of the license is indeed there on paper. Even if the watchwords are planning, precision, and teamwork, all with the reflection time offered by a turn-based game, Ubisoft Paris already wants to specify that a game mechanic will shake up the games: the Breach system.

Indeed, this will allow for a synchronized attack uniting the forces of agents on the ground. For the occasion, the turn-based rhythm will be temporarily interrupted. This promises some tense moments and spectacular gameplay sequences. Finally, note that the story will unfold parallel to the current timeline of R6 Siege and the game will be available on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft Connect), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A Closed Test phase will even be launched to offer early access to those selected (more information on this dedicated site).
