In 2013, Ubisoft released a new installment of the Assassin's Creed series that became a cult classic. The aptly named Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag had the particularity of immersing us in the shoes of Edward Kenway for a brand new story set against a backdrop of piracy. On July 9, 2026, it will be possible to (re)discover this magnificent adventure thanks to the remake, known as Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. To mark the occasion, Ubisoft has partnered with Unsolved Hunts to organize a worldwide treasure hunt with a real treasure to be found in the Caribbean. Here's how it works.
Hoist the flag, engage your brain
Sailing the seas, attacking ships, stripping crews of their riches, enjoying moments of relaxation, the life of pirates was full. In addition to that, in their quest for loot, they hunted for treasures. A map, clues, instinct, finding a chest containing a pile of gold coins was not so easy. This year, nearly 13 years after the release of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, Ubisoft is preparing to release a remake offering updated visuals thanks to the Anvil engine, along with revamped gameplay, including improvements for parkour and the stealth system, not to mention reworked combat. For some people, this new version is already a treasure in itself. For collectors, the big loot not to be missed will certainly be the collector's edition of the game. This will include an exclusive steelbook, a metal pin, a fabric world map, Edward Kenway's logbook, a sea shanty score, and a magnificent statue highlighting the main character.
A few weeks after communicating all the information to know about the title, Ubisoft unveils Gold & Crystal - The Lost Treasure of Edward Kenway. For the occasion, it's not downloadable content. No, the French publisher aimed higher by partnering with Unsolved Hunts, a French startup specializing in treasure hunts. As you guessed, Ubisoft is setting up a real treasure hunt. Enough to make budding pirates want to embark on the adventure, while echoing the universe of the game. The hunt in question will begin on November 9th. It will require solving 15 puzzles through several elements to decrypt, including an encrypted message in a bottle, a map of the Caribbean, and a set of letters and archives.

Of course, the publisher promises that several game references will be included. However, to exclude no one, Ubisoft assures that there is no need to know the game to solve them. Similarly, there is no need to prepare your ticket to travel to the Caribbean, where the treasure worth $500,000 is hidden, to solve the puzzles. Everything can be done remotely, from home. However, the first person who manages to determine the location of the chest will be offered a round trip to the Caribbean to dig up the chest in person. They will then be able to take possession of the crystal skull replica made by Hervé Obligi (French lapidary) and the gold coins, signed by AuCOFFRE, stamped with the game's logo.

However, be careful. To participate in this great treasure hunt, you must start by pre-ordering your access starting at 34.99€. The two companies warn: do not think you will solve the puzzles quickly. The treasure hunt is designed to last between 2 to 5 years. Patience will therefore be your best asset, in addition to your brainpower, to solve the puzzles.
