After two installments of the Call of Duty franchise signed by Treyarch, namely Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Infinity Ward is back at the helm. This year, the studio invites us to dive into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, starting October 23rd on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and for the first time, on Nintendo Switch 2. Let's go for the presentation of this promising installment.
Meet in the Korean Peninsula
Even though the multiplayer mode of Call of Duty is the part that attracts and retains most players, the Campaign should not be overlooked. It is highly appreciated for its ability to immerse us in action, with a scripted structure that allows for epic moments. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will also feature a Campaign mode that will place the action on the Korean Peninsula, but not only there. In broad strokes, North Korea launches a large-scale invasion. It is in this context of global conflict that players will evolve. They will embody the young South Korean soldier Park who will try to survive as the front line retreats.
But that's not all, as the development studio, which promises to depict a darker and more threatening universe, will continue the story of Captain Price. Having become an outlaw, he is driven by a desire for revenge, which pushes him to continue his clandestine mission to try to prevent a global catastrophe. To offer some change of scenery, the campaign promises to move the action to all corners of the world. Korea will not be the only theater of conflict. Other scenes will take place in New York, Paris, and Mumbai. The trailer revealed for the occasion precisely presents this darker universe, this world in chaos, while unveiling some of the said environments in which we will evolve. A little surprise even awaits the fans... In any case, Infinity Ward already promises that the final outcome will be "as strong as it is upsetting".
The realism of war pushed to the level of visuals
Just watch the announcement trailer to quickly understand that the development studio has worked on the graphical rendering. The lighting, textures, character rendering, and special effects, everything has been worked on to offer a more modern installment in terms of rendering. And for good reason, this new Call of Duty is intended only for current platforms. No PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions this year... But the title will be released for the first time on Nintendo Switch 2 (in collaboration with Digital Legends), in addition to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This choice allows Infinity Ward to build larger environments while offering a more lively rendering and maintaining optimal fluidity. The studio promises that the experience will be smoother and more responsive than in the past, both in Campaign and Multiplayer or DMZ.
Additionally, Beenox is backing the project to pamper the PC version. The two studios are working hand in hand to optimize performance for a wide range of hardware. A whole host of parameters and other options will allow adjusting the rendering according to one's preferences, whether to prioritize the reactivity or image quality. The goal is for everyone to be able to control every aspect. Those who have the appropriate equipment will even be able to enjoy DLSS 4.5 support and real-time ray tracing.

Realism at the Heart of Gameplay
Improving visual rendering is not enough to give a realistic and authentic aspect to the experience. The development team is well aware of this and proves it by announcing gameplay improvements to further enhance realism. The first point to note is that the studio has removed random dispersion and revised weapon recoil as well as shot convergence. Thus, these will be more predictable and more in line with the ongoing action. This new installment being very focused on ground combat, Infinity Ward has reworked the movement system to introduce a higher level of fluidity. The behavior of the weapons will also adapt to the movements. The goal is to create shootouts that gain in dynamism and coherence.

First Information on Multiplayer and DMZ
For the game's reveal, Activision mainly wanted to highlight the Campaign and the improvements made to the gameplay and visuals. Thus, the Multiplayer mode will be more extensively presented in the coming days, as will the DMZ experience which will be unveiled on June 7. Nevertheless, the publisher has communicated some information to whet the appetite. We already know that the multiplayer mode will allow enjoying 12 base maps highlighting realistic settings. Some maps will be designed for gunfights, while others will target larger-scale battles involving vehicles and infantry.
Beyond the traditional experience, the Multiplayer of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will introduce a very attractive novelty: Kill Block. Players will discover a map based on the Westbridge training complex which will have the peculiarity of offering a battlefield that changes with each round. In other words, the map is made up of several modular sections that are arranged differently each round, allowing for more than 500 different configurations. It can host both 3 vs 3 and 10 vs 10 confrontations. Its modularity will therefore require everyone to adapt in real-time to the terrain. Knowing the map will no longer be enough to hope to gain an advantage over opponents.

Finally, the DMZ mode will indeed be part of the game. This extraction-focused experience will require retrieving military technologies solo or in a squad. To add spice to the games, the conditions of the exclusion zone will evolve as progression is made. Specifically, in addition to enemy movements, players will have to adapt to changing objectives and weather hazards.
