A few days after the Xbox Developer_Direct to highlight five upcoming games on PC and Xbox in 2024, the Redmond company invited Carrie Patel and Gabe Paramo, respectively Game Director and Gameplay Director on Avowed, to participate in the official Xbox podcast to talk more about this title expected this fall on PC and Xbox Series X|S, with a release in the Xbox Game Pass from launch.
Choice at the heart of the experience
The idea was mentioned during the presentation at the Developer_Direct but Carrie Patel and Gabe Paramo want to revisit it, the choices and consequences will be at the heart of the players' experience, especially in terms of combat, in addition to the choices present in the narrative. The variety of the combat system is highlighted here to show that in addition to being able to use a sword, a firearm, a shield, an axe, a bow, or even two magic wands, it will mainly be possible to frequently change equipment to best adapt to enemies, not to mention the skills to use. Thus, it will be possible, for example, to freeze an enemy with a magic wand before slicing it with a sword.
You will not be alone in exploring the Living Lands
Your adventure in the Living Lands will not be limited to combat and exploration. It will also involve meeting companions, allies who will help you resolve conflicts you face, serving as local guides. It will be an opportunity to learn more about them and the regions they represent. In the video, we saw two of these guides, Kai, who plays the role of a tank, and Giatta, who is in charge of healing the group.
Shatterscarp, a preview, a side quest
The video focuses on Shatterscarp, a part of the Living Lands island that fits into the Pillars of Eternity universe. The duo showcases a side quest that fits into the main narrative of Avowed but will especially reward the curious who push exploration. In other words, you could very well miss it, especially since the playground is described as an open area comparable in size to the zones of The Outer Worlds but larger, with multiple paths to explore or not. There will therefore be several secrets to discover starting this fall!
