Blast x Rainbow Six Siege changes its competitive formula

Blast R6 Season 2024

Happy Birthday Blast x Ubisoft!

It has already been a year since Blast entered the Rainbow Six Siege ecosystem! The tournament organizer Blast is therefore preparing a new version of the esports circuit for the year 2024.

The competitive circuit of Rainbow Six Siege underwent many changes with the arrival of Blast, which took the reins of organizing and broadcasting the tournaments after a promising inaugural year in 2023. The major changes were moving to two Majors per year instead of three, and the division into nine regions instead of four previously. Armed with the experience gained and community feedback, BLAST is introducing major adjustments aimed at refining the esports landscape of the game.

Changes in Point Allocation

The adjustments notably focus on the point system for the Six Invitational, now recalibrated to prioritize performances at the Majors. The points awarded during regional competitions are lowered in order to reduce the point gap between the different closed leagues. Additionally, greater importance is given to the playoff phases of the Majors, rewarding more the teams that reach them, while teams finishing at the bottom of the ranking will receive fewer points than in the past.

The qualification structure for the Majors and the distribution of slots also undergo modifications, aimed at improving the experience for teams and fans and especially at homogenizing the esports circuit between regions. The regional leagues slightly adjust their operations to align with the new more direct qualification path for the Majors, which can be summarized as open qualifications to all previous teams in the closed regional leagues and then last-chance qualifiers. The number of open slots per region for the Majors evolves: four slots for the main regions (Europe, North America, Brazil), two slots for Japan, Korea, and finally one slot for Latin America, Oceania, the Middle East, and the remaining Asia region.

No changes around the organization of the competition calendar, it remains condensed around two annual Majors, each spanning two weeks and integrating a "play-in" phase followed by a classic competition phase with groups and playoffs.

The Six Invitational in Sao Paulo: Joga bonito

This year's Six Invitational, once again, will be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the top 20 teams will compete from February 13 to 25 to lift the iconic sledgehammer, the trophy of the competition. Along with glory, a cash prize of three million dollars is at stake, put up by Blast and Ubisoft. G2 had shone the European colors by winning the title last year against w7m. This year's SI promises to be exceptional with Brazilian teams dominant in previous Majors and especially a crowd that seems ready to do anything to support the local players!
