The years go by but Rainbow Six Siege continues on its path, enjoying a strong community to exist, while benefiting from updates to welcome new female and male players. Without realizing it, this year marks the 10th anniversary of this title from the Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six franchise. To celebrate this anniversary properly, Ubisoft has gone all out. This time, the company will deploy the biggest update in the history of the title. After this, everyone will be able to enjoy Rainbow Six Siege X, a much more modern version.

A major evolution coming

Last month, Ubisoft teased Rainbow Six Siege X by releasing a video and outlining the main features of this update. A month later, the publisher reveals all the information to know. The first and most crucial is that this evolution will begin on June 10th through a free update. This will be deployed on all platforms that host the experience, including PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. A good preview of the new content will be available to appreciate between May 8th and 18th, during RELOAD, the esports competition that will take place in Brazil, specifically in Rio de Janeiro. It will be an opportunity to see professionals compete on the new versions of the maps.

The biggest novelty to be introduced will certainly be the new permanent Dual Front mode playable in 6 vs 6. Only available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S versions, this will bring players to District, a brand new map. This will be composed of three zones, the neutral and those of the two teams. The goal will be simple, to secure three sectors under control of the opposing team, while defending their own. The peculiarity of the neutral zone is that it will allow limited-time missions to be completed to earn rewards... But during this time, it will weaken the team to attack the opposing positions, while protecting their own. Enough to bring a certain strategic aspect requiring calculating the "pros" and "cons" before risking everything for a few rewards.

35 operators will be accessible. Everyone will be able to choose the one they want, whether they are an attacker or a defender. This mix will allow taking advantage of each one's abilities to set up tactics. A little extra, it will even be possible to change operators with each respawn to adjust the strategy in real-time. To ensure continued interest over time, developers will apply a rotation of selected operators, twice per season. Of course, the missions in the neutral zone will also be renewed with each new season.

The maps are transforming and that's not all

Rainbow Six Siege is turning 10 years old. In a video game, even if developers make efforts to keep the title up to date, the weight of the years can quickly affect the visuals. To properly mark the desired evolution with Rainbow Six Siege X, Ubisoft will revamp the classic maps. Needless to say, the evolution is stunning thanks to the use of new lighting, reworked shadows, and 4K textures. At launch, Clubhouse, Chalet, Bank, and Cafe will benefit from these improvements. Then, each season, three additional maps will be modernized. The entire sound aspect will also be reworked, notably the part concerning sound propagation and reverberation.

This will be accompanied by some new gameplay features to add even more dynamism to the battles. Thus, there will be additional destructible elements, starting with fire extinguishers and other gas pipes. Rappelling will also get a facelift, with the ability to move horizontally and jump around building corners.

A more open, better-protected experience

New players will also be well-received with the addition of tutorials and training to help them master the basics before jumping into battles. As a bonus, the Pick & Ban feature will also be revised to allow teams to proceed with simultaneous bans each round.

The developers will also aim to protect the quality of the experience by deploying the R6 ShieldGuard, a sort of digital shield to combat cheaters. The main advantage of this tool is that it will adapt in real-time with security updates that will no longer require scheduled maintenance. The publisher promises to combine current technologies with new ones to effectively combat this scourge.

Finally, note that those who do not have Rainbow Six Siege and wish to play Rainbow Six Siege X will be able to access it for free starting June 10. However, be aware that the experience will be limited, allowing play on Dual Front, in quick matches, and Unranked matches with up to 26 operators. To have more operators, play ranked, and access the Siege Cup, an investment in a premium version will be necessary.
