2026 will be a big year for World of Warcraft players. As you probably already know, Blizzard Entertainment is set to revolutionize the experience starting March 3, the day of the Midnight expansion deployment. This launch, as important as it is, will only be a step on the roadmap planned by the development team. This was just revealed during a broadcast taking stock of the Landscape of Azeroth. It's an opportunity to find out what awaits us with Holly Longdale and Ion Hazzikostas, both on the modern version and on WoW Classic. After the 2025 review, it's time to look to the future.

World of Warcraft Roadmap 2026

The modern version of WoW will be full of new features

Twenty years after the initial release of World of Warcraft, Blizzard Entertainment is about to shake up the experience by offering players the housing system. This system, which will be launched on March 3 with the release of the Midnight expansion, will allow factions to coexist without any bitterness. This haven of peace will gather several biomes and allow everyone to create their home and customize it as they wish. Of course, everyone will also be able to discover the Midnight campaign, in addition to the possibility of exploring four new zones or meeting the Haranir.

Then, during the spring, the studio plans to release two updates that will include the Void Assaults as well as new stories and quests. Fans of challenges will also be able to embark on a new raid. Another will be offered during the summer with update 12.1. This will also include a new zone, a new dungeon, additional chasms, as well as updates to the housing system. Season 2 will also be launched before Blizzcon, an event that will take place on September 12, 2026. There is no doubt that several new features and other surprises will be presented. Finally, to end the year, Blizzard Entertainment will deploy two more updates. This will allow, among other things, the discovery of a new standalone mode, additional stories and quests, and the integration of seasonal content. The actual saga will thus conclude with the third and final installment of the saga, namely the aptly named The Last Titan.

New blood for the classic experience

As its name suggests, WoW Classic is an experience that pays tribute to the first six years of the original game. This is not about to stop as the studio plans an evolution in several phases. In just a few weeks, during the spring, players will discover the Mists of Pandaria Classic update. It will be an opportunity to embark on an unprecedented campaign accompanied by new scenarios. Later, during the summer, Blizzard Entertainment plans to release an update focused on the siege of Orgrimmar, in addition to marking the return of the Isle of Time. The anniversary edition of Burning Crusade Classic will also get its spotlight. Several events will be offered over the four phases, including new raids and the introduction, in each phase, of a new arena season.

The development studio took the opportunity to reassure players about the future of the franchise. They are still listening to community feedback and will prove it once again by launching surveys soon. The feedback will help continue to make Azeroth prosper, while maintaining the evolving aspect that makes it so lively. They also want to thank the entire community, without which WoW would probably only be a memory for a few players. It is thanks to the passion and investment of each and every one that the franchise endures through the ages. And it's not about to stop, as the team still has plenty of projects they can't yet discuss.
