The success of Battle Royales like Fortnite, PUBG, and Call of Duty: Warzone inevitably gives ideas to many publishers, including Blizzard. It's a good thing, a new update for World of Warcraft has appeared to integrate Plunderstorm, a limited-time event inspired by Battle Royales accessible by subscribing to WoW or having game time (so no expansion to buy).
On the Approach of the Battle Royale
Ahoy, ahoy captains of World of Warcraft, head to the Arathi Highlands to take on a new challenge and earn loot. Plunderstorm takes the most classic rules of Battle Royales by launching 60 player-characters on a map with one goal: to be the last one alive to win the game. Blizzard specifies that each game lasts between ten and fifteen minutes and allows you to obtain rewards accessible in the modern version of WoW and in WoW Classic (which began its Phase 2 last month).

Piracy at the Heart of the Event
It seems that experiences like Sea of Thieves or the recent Skull & Bones have given Blizzard some ideas as the developers wanted to highlight a theme, that of piracy. The advantage is that the event, playable Solo or Duo with a friend, is accessible to newcomers as it is not necessary to master races and classes to embark on the adventure. You simply need to create a new character from the models offered that are specific to this event. Once this is done, all that's left is to dive in, defeat enemies, and loot chests.
This allows you to acquire spells and techniques that are automatically added to the action bar. Specifically, there are two slots for offensive skills and two others for utilities. Each technique can be upgraded to rank 3. Needless to say, you need to loot as many chests as possible to find the techniques that best match your play style or to find the same one multiple times to upgrade it. If you die, you become a spectator specter that allows you to observe the rest of the game to refine your strategy for the next round. Finally, note that among the rewards, it is possible to obtain the plundering lord parrot mount, various ornamental items, and the crab pet Bubulle.
