World of Warcraft invades Waze

World of Warcraft Waze
World of WarcraftOct 1, 20242 min read

On November 23, 2004, a game by Blizzard Entertainment was born... And it will change the lives of many players. This highly popular MMORPG is still around twenty years later. To celebrate its twentieth anniversary, the development studio has set up some surprises. Among them is a partnership with Waze, the driving assistance and satellite guidance application that relies on its community to adjust routes based on feedback from contributors.

Thrall is here to support you

Whether for personal pleasure or to show off to carpoolers, it is now possible to choose Thrall, the iconic hero of World of Warcraft, as a navigation assistant. Our hero is available in two versions, one associated with the Horde and the other linked to the Alliance. Once your faction is chosen, your new sidekick will be ready to guide you with some unique language quirks.

Thus, he will use his wisdom to help you handle unexpected events or to show a little patience. You'll hear phrases like “breathe - it's not the end of the world” when traffic is heavy or “a clever strategy to outsmart the pursuers on our tails” when a U-turn is necessary. However, note that the voiceover is not localized. While the feature is deployed worldwide, the instructions will remain in English only. So, it's an opportunity to enjoy Chris Metzen's performance.

Finally, similar to what was done with the Halo license, for example, it is possible to replace the visual representing your vehicle with an iconic element from the license. Of course, in this case, it's not about visualizing a Warthog but indeed a red drake. Needless to say, this brings a bit of originality to your navigation window!
