Given the resounding success of the Pokémon franchise over many years, it's not surprising to see other productions trying to draw inspiration from the formula by adapting it more or less. Besides Digimon, which might quickly come to mind, there are some video games that borrow elements from Nintendo's franchise, such as Coromon, Nexomon, TemTem, or the upcoming DokeV from PearlAbyss. The Japanese studio PocketPair.inc also wanted to offer its vision of collecting small monsters with Palworld.
Monsters, weapons, and constructions
Just watch the trailer below to realize the resemblance between the Pals, the creatures of Palworld, and the Pokémon we know so well. Raichu, Wooloo, Vulpix, and company seem to have found their distant cousins. Nevertheless, Pocketpair.inc's game differentiates itself by adopting the style of an open-world survival game. While you must capture and collect the Pals (a hundred of them) to make them fight, it is also noticeable that you need to use them to build structures, work in the fields, and run factories. In addition to this management aspect, the battles introduce firearms, a bit like Fortnite colliding with Pokémon.
A date and a direct arrival in the Xbox Game Pass
The wait won't be much longer as the release date has just been set for next January 19th. The plus is that Palworld will be directly integrated into the Xbox Game Pass, in addition to all the games already announced for this month, allowing subscribers to the service to enjoy it at no additional cost. As a reminder, the Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service from Microsoft that allows you to enjoy several hundred games for €14.99/month in its Ultimate version (on PC, Xbox, and Cloud). A Core subscription at €6.99/month on console is also available to enjoy online multiplayer and a catalog of over 25 games.
