Talking about naval battles in a Battlefield game allows us to dive back into memories. We go back to 2002. Indeed, it was that year that fans of war games were able to engage in clearly mastered naval combat with Battlefield 1942. Since then, sea confrontations have returned in some episodes, including Battlefield 4 (with the Naval Strike expansion), Battlefield 1, and Battlefield V. Rest assured, Battlefield 6 will indeed have its dedicated naval warfare section. Electronic Arts is precisely showing a preview of what awaits players in Season 4.
When battles know no limits
Since the release of Battlefield 6, the Battlefield Studios team has been doing its best to add a nice dose of new features each season, while taking care to bring a touch of nostalgia for the veterans. Proof of this, since the Season 3 which began on May 12, the latest iteration of the franchise allows players to enjoy Train to Golmud, a reinterpretation of the famous Golmud Railway map from BF4, as well as Cairo Bazaar, a reimagined version of the Grand Bazaar from BF3. For Season 4, as announced last April during the unveiling of the 2026 roadmap, the development team is going all out by reintroducing naval combat.
Thus, from July 21, players will be able to battle on Tsuru Reef. This battlefield is announced as the largest ever created to date. Indeed, to ensure a constant threat and tense confrontations both on land and in the air and sea, the playground will consist of extensive islands. The war will be total as the confrontations will involve using boats, planes, and land vehicles. No one will be safe. Of course, to maintain the quality level of the game, the integration of naval combat has been given special care. As you can see in the Season 4 presentation trailer, the development team has worked on the physics of the boats and added dynamic waves for an even more striking rendering.
Are you ready to board the 7.7m semi-rigid NSW to quickly charge at opponents? Or do you prefer to board the RCB-90 patrol boat specifically designed for attack? To help you in your assaults, four new weapons will make their appearance, including a sniper rifle for those who prefer to keep their distance. Naturally, new rewards will be at stake and, as planned, later in the season, the Battlefield Studios will add Wake Island, an iconic map from Battlefield 1942.
