Electronic Arts has just unveiled the new features of Battlefield REDSEC that will be deployed this month. On the agenda, players will be able to discover a new Battle Royale mode promising faster matches, in addition to proximity chat. Those who enjoy competition can participate in the Cash Cups, before taking part in the Open Series hoping to reach the Elite Series.

Another way to play

If you want to enjoy the multiplayer experience of the Battlefield franchise, you have two options. The first is to dive into the multiplayer mode of Battlefield 6. This has just been updated as part of Season 4 to include a Top Gun experience that was highly anticipated. The second is Battlefield REDSEC, a free-to-play version that offers an experience centered around Battle Royale. It retains all the DNA of the franchise, like the class system, the ability to drive vehicles, and destroy environmental elements.

With the upcoming arrival of Season 5, Electronic Arts will invite players to discover a new Battle Royale mode. The promise is simple: to offer an alternative that focuses on faster matches. To achieve this, the fast Battle Royale mode will reduce the number of players competing in smaller zones. Additionally, the circles will move faster. These three elements combined should reduce the time of each round and lead to quicker engagements. No more wandering the map to find enemies; you'll get into the action faster. You'll need to be on your toes at all times.

In multiplayer-oriented games, there is a component that often makes the difference. It's communication. A squad that communicates and organizes will always have a higher chance of victory than a squad that relies solely on individual skills. However, it can also be enjoyable to communicate with other members of the match, not just those in your squad. Therefore, starting September 15, the development studio will add proximity chat.

Thus, you will come into contact with players who are around your position. Between negotiations, agreements, and chance encounters, the system should alter the social approach to matches. Of course, the team will monitor feedback and evaluate elements related to the system, including audio range, moderation tools, and the impact of this proximity chat on gameplay. In other words, this first iteration of the chat will serve as a test to consider how the system can evolve in the future.

Competitions to aim for the Elite

Playing multiplayer is a way to compare one's level with that of others. It encourages a competitive side, whether it is driven by a ranking system or based on a more relaxed approach. In fact, Electronic Arts will emphasize this competitive aspect starting September 19 with the integration of Cash Cups. Bridging the gap between the end of Season 4 and the arrival of Season 5, these weekly tournaments will be held until October 10. Teams from the APAC (Asia and Pacific), EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), and Americas regions will be able to participate. Beware, competition means stakes and rewards. There will be $150,000 in prize money to be won, the amount being distributed among the three regions.

This preview will mainly pave the way for what follows, namely the Open Series. These will be held between October 24 and November 21 through three events taking place over two days. The principle is simple, up to 384 teams will compete in each region. The tournament will progress through lounges of 24 teams, but only the top 12 will be selected for the next round. This will allow the selection to be refined to highlight the best squads who will earn their place for the Elite Series alongside teams from the Original Elite Series.

This highlight will take place between December 4, 2026, and January 16, 2027. Only 48 teams will be gathered for each region. They will compete over 6 match days. The best will advance to the season finale, which will be played in a Decisive Point format. For the return of these prestigious competitions, Electronic Arts has planned a prize pool of $1,338,000, the money being equally distributed among each region.
