Season 3 of League of Legends is coming: here's what to expect

La Saison 3 de League of Legends arrive : voici ce à quoi il faut s’attendre
League of LegendsAug 26, 20254 min read

Tomorrow will be a big day for the players of League of Legends. Almost four months after the launch of Season 2, Riot Games is about to launch Season 3. This will allow us to know the continuation of the story that began with Welcome to Noxus and Spirit Blossom, to discover a visual update of Xin Zhao, to enjoy reworked skins, to find the PvE Chaos Bots mode and much more.

Xin Zhao at the center of attention

Xin Zhao is a determined warrior easily recognizable with his three-pronged spear. He is the champion who has been chosen to receive a visual update as part of Season 3. Players who embody him can rest assured, his gameplay will not be changed. The changes will be purely cosmetic. All skins have been reworked for the occasion, while a new epic skin will even be available at the end of Act I. A nice bonus, archived skins will return with patch 25.17, which launches said Season 3, and the next one, namely the aptly named 25.18. The commando and imperial skins have also been improved, which will be accompanied by an increase in RP price. This will rise from 520 to 750, starting with the deployment of patch 25.17.

The Chaos Bots make their grand return

Prepare for the showdown. The Chaos Bots are more pumped up than ever and ready to fight. The PvE mode is back to allow you, along with four teammates, to face overpowering robots for 15 minutes before being able to confront Veigar. The task will not be easy as Riot Games has introduced a malevolent bot named Wukong, in homage to the mythical Monkey King. He will cause you many troubles as the range of his skill A has been expanded, while his skill E can create even more clones. Better avoid ending up facing seven spinning Wukongs.

This is just the appetizer as the main course will be Veigar, a boss that already promises to be formidable, more than Teemo and Swarm. Indeed, Veigar will use the skills of Mordekaiser, the warlord who managed to capture and torture him. The consequence of this is that one or more team members may be brought to make a jump to the realm of the dead. Guess who will be waiting for you there? The Chaos Bots! To top it off, the "Chaos Trials" will add exclusive objectives, while the bravest can taste an unprecedented level of difficulty.

Some improvements to make life easier

Riot Games is a studio attentive to community feedback. It also strives to improve every aspect of its title, introducing new features that offer a certain gaming comfort. It is with this in mind that two new features will be deployed. The first adds individual timers to all jungle camps. The second will allow for easier tracking of summoner spell usage in the death recap. Of course, the development team does not intend to stop there and is already promising other updates that will be deployed by the end of the year.

An experiment to help newcomers

League of Legends is a title that requires a certain investment to be minimally mastered. Movement is an integral part of the game's mechanics. After years of trying to tame the mouse and its potential quirks, players are about to experience a real revolution. Riot Games will introduce a movement system using the ZQSD keys. These are the most common controls used in video games for character movement control. For the development team, this addition is an important step to open the title to newcomers. It will also allow those who have taken a break for a good while to get back into the swing of things by maintaining a left-hand position made almost instinctive with other titles.

Of course, this system will be an alternative to the mechanics already in place. It will be gradually integrated over the coming months, allowing Riot Games to evaluate win rates according to skill levels, roles, and champions. Thus, initially, the possibility of playing in ZQSD will be offered on the PBE. This will allow for collecting even more feedback to refine the experience and maintain a certain balance dear to the teams.

Cosmetics and protection measures in view

The fantastic shop will soon welcome the new prestige skins for Sylas and Mel. For those who wish to obtain those for Jarvan IV and Zoe, a little more investment will be needed. Indeed, these will be available to win, the first in the act I pass and the second in the act II pass. Then, in September, players will be able to acquire the T1 skins from the 2024 Worlds. Finally, in addition to some emotes and other icons, everyone will be able to discover Viktor herald of machines with the arrival of patch 25.19. Those who have mastery of this champion above level 5, as of August 4th, will even be able to obtain the cosmetic element for free.

Riot Games is not really fond of smurfing. On the contrary, the studio tries to fight against this practice which aims to disadvantage people whose level is lower. Therefore, it will be particularly vigilant against the two variants of this practice, namely boosting (playing on someone else's account to help them reach a higher rank) and hitchhiking (a high-level player using a fake account to artificially boost the rank of lower-level players). In both cases, all offenders are exposed to sanctions. Similarly, Riot Games will deploy a new version of Vanguard. This will help fight against account trafficking and those who use bots. Finally, League of Legends being a game with a particular aura on the eSports scene, the publisher already warns that the Worlds anthem of League of Legends will be released on October 10th. As a reminder, the World Championships will take place in Beijing (China) starting from October 14th.
