Gear of War E day
XboxJun 27, 20246 min read

A little earlier in the month, Microsoft held an Xbox Games Showcase to update on games in development, make some announcements, and showcase part of the upcoming catalog, whether it's games from Xbox Game Studios, Activision and Bethesda studios (the last two acquisitions), or some third parties. Now that the event has passed, your dear Quill offers to revisit the upcoming titles in the Xbox Game Pass that you definitely shouldn't miss. Of course, there's no need to revisit the full presentation of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 which already had its complete summary.

Age of Mythology: Retold

Whether you play on PC or Xbox Series X|S, if you're a fan of real-time strategy games, then this announcement will make you jump for joy. Indeed, Age of Mythology: Retold will arrive on the mentioned platforms on September 4, 2024, with of course a Day One integration into the Xbox Game Pass. For the formula, World's Edge intends to keep that of the 2002 opus while modernizing the graphics and some aspects of the gameplay.

Atomfall

Those under 70 may not remember the Windscale fire of 1957 that caused a nuclear disaster in England. Rebellion, the studio behind the Sniper Elite franchise, decided to use this historical context to develop a fictional story mixing action and survival. Patience will be required as the title is not expected until next year. However, we already have the guarantee of being able to play it from its release day via the Xbox Game Pass.

Avowed

If you have already played Pillars of Eternity, then you already know the world of Eora. With Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment uses it to develop its new first-person action RPG. If you don't know the first-mentioned franchise, rest assured, the only connection between the two franchises will be the said world. There will be no connection at the level of the storyline, nor at the level of gameplay. As a newcomer, you will therefore have all the cards in your hands to discover this new production, which will be released on November 12 on PC and Xbox Series X|S.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

A Plague Tale, Assassin’s Creed Unity, Dordogne, Steelrising, and Remember Me, all these games have one thing in common: they place France at the heart of their universe. To this list, which is not exhaustive, we must add Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in 2025. It is a game developed by Sandfall Interactive that focuses on the artistic culture of the Belle Époque to offer us a fantastic adventure in the form of a turn-based role-playing game. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and will be added to the Xbox Game Pass.

DOOM: The Dark Ages

DOOM is a franchise that was born in 1993. It has managed to attract a large audience who appreciate first-person shooter games. In 2016, it was rebooted with a new installment simply titled DOOM. In 2025, a new chapter will arrive on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with the bonus of being included in the Xbox Game Pass. Rest assured, if you are not familiar with the franchise, you will not necessarily need to catch up before playing this DOOM: The Dark Ages. Indeed, the title will be a prequel to the 2016 installment. Thus, id Software will welcome newcomers by inviting them to embark on demon hunting in the shoes of the Doom Slayer. A vast arsenal, a cybernetic dragon to ride, a mecha named Atlan to use, brutal action, and a big soundtrack are the ingredients of this formula.

Fable

Flagship franchise of Lionhead Studios (which has since been closed), and by extension of Peter Molyneux, Fable will return in 2025 with a reboot by Playground Games, the studio behind Forza Horizon. The latter is cooperating with Eidos Montreal to offer a next-generation RPG on PC and Xbox Series X|S. During its showcase, Xbox unveiled a new video that gives the floor to Humphry, the great hero of Albion.

Gears of War: E-Day

Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago are two characters extremely appreciated by fans of Gears of War. When you know the history of the franchise, you realize how clever it is to opt for a prequel as the new installment. Thus, we can find the iconic duo of the saga, while learning more about the events that occurred on Emergence Day, 14 years before the storyline of the first Gears of War. Needless to say, Unreal Engine 5 should deliver a visual spectacle!

Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle

The most famous adventurer known through the features of Harrison Ford will return in a video game. Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle is a first-person adventure game set to be released at the end of the year on PC and Xbox Series X|S, with Day One integration into Xbox Game Pass. Of course, it will be possible to use Indiana Jones' whip, in addition to using a small arsenal to defeat enemies. While waiting to go relic hunting, here is already a gameplay video.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

A good month before the end-of-year holidays, Asobo Studio will invite all aviation fans to return to the skies with a new Microsoft Flight Simulator. Of course, the Bordeaux studio will try to improve its formula by allowing everyone to pursue a career in one of the many fields related to aviation. Needless to say, this installment will also diversify the aircraft to be piloted.

Mixtape

With its evocative name, Mixtape is a game that will rely on its soundtrack to appeal to players. Watch out, there will be some heavy tracks from DEVO and Iggy Pop. Beyond the auditory pleasure, the title from Beethoven & Dinosaur aims to focus on certain key moments of adolescence, with some varied passages. Everything will be connected by a common thread taking the form of a mixtape. However, you will have to wait until next year to play it, even though the game will be directly integrated into Xbox Game Pass.

Perfect Dark

In 2018, Microsoft set up a new Californian studio led by Darrell Gallagher, who was previously in charge of Crystal Dynamics. The team boasts of employing several industry veterans who have worked at BioWare, Naughty Dog, and Rockstar Games, to name a few. The first project of this new entity is none other than Perfect Dark, a new installment serving as a reboot. Officially announced in 2020, the project remained in the shadows until the release of this video showcasing the gameplay of this new game. Fans might be surprised by the direction quite different from the original installments... But Joanna Dark will indeed return to hunt down Daniel Carrington. It's scheduled for 2025 on PC and Xbox Series X|S, and it should pique the community's curiosity with this blend of action, stealth, parkour, and technological gadgets.

South of Midnight

If you are not familiar with the work of Compulsion Games, we can only advise you to play Contrast or We Happy Few. With South of Midnight, the Canadian studio will offer us a new atmosphere. This third-person action-adventure game will focus on a female character with magical powers, Hazel, and creatures to fight. To help her in her quest, Hazel can rely on Catfish, a surprisingly talkative sea monster. See you in 2025 to play it on PC and Xbox Series X|S, and on Day One via Game Pass.

State of Decay 3

Last year, the State of Decay franchise quietly celebrated its tenth anniversary. It offers a survival experience against hordes of zombies by adding a construction aspect to set up bases and outposts to provide a safe place for survivors. After an HD version and a sequel, the saga will return with a third installment. No release date to sink our teeth into yet, but we are assured that Undead Labs is working on it. The goal will be to offer an enriched recipe while maintaining the franchise's core elements. While waiting to learn more, we have a trailer to give a glimpse of what to expect.
