LOL: the 2023 Worlds final

LOL : la finale des Worlds 2023
League of LegendsNov 20, 20232 min read

Hello everyone, hello to all here Quill from the Metropolis Chronicle for your gaming news bulletin. Today we return to a major esports event: the 2023 Worlds finals of League of Legends which took place on November 19, 2023, at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.

T1

T1 is a team composed of five members: Zeus, Oner, Gumayusi, Keria, not to mention their most famous player: Faker. Since its creation, the team has undergone several changes, including its name in 2019. Before this final, T1 had already won the Worlds four times. A record.

This victory had a taste of revenge for the whole team, including Keria, who said during the post-match press conference: "It's unreal, it's like a dream." We all remember him in tears after the semi-finals lost last year.

A record-breaking final

As I mentioned in the introduction, this final is the most anticipated esports event on the planet. However, the atmosphere started to rise from the beginning of October when twenty-two teams embarked on the quest for the 2023 Worlds eliminations of League of Legends. As often, many are called but few are chosen. Only two teams managed to reach the final, which saw the crowning of T1. Indeed, Faker and his teammates did not hold back against Weibo Gaming as they won 3 games to zero in record time.

But the record was also and especially on the audience side. At its peak, the 2023 Worlds final captivated more than 6.4 million viewers, making the 2023 Worlds the first esports tournament to surpass the 6 million simultaneous viewers threshold. A record that exceeds by 24% the previous one held by the Free Fire World Series 2021 in Singapore. Needless to say, this audience is notably due to the fact that Faker and T1 were playing at home and were in pursuit of their fourth world title.

Faker superstar

Lee Sang-hyeok, known as "Faker," started his career in 2013 at the age of 17. He then joined the team sponsored by SK Telecom: T1. His name may not have the same resonance here, but he is a true star in his country. A gold medalist at the Asian Games, he has won the Korean national competition, the LCK, ten times, and the mid-season competition twice. There is no doubt that Faker still has great years ahead of him.

London 2024

We already know that the 2024 Worlds final will be held on November 2, 2024 at the 02 Arena in London. A return to Europe after 5 years of absence. We will therefore find Faker and the other members of T1 without much surprise. See you very soon for a new gaming news bulletin. This was Quill wishing you a good day in Metropolis City.
