Here is Project K, the League of Legends card game IRL

Project K
League of LegendsDec 6, 20242 min read

If someone talks to you about the association of the universe of League of Legends and a card game, you must of course immediately think of the video game Legends of Runeterra. However, next year, this association will take another form: Project K. Behind this name lies mainly the physical version of the collectible card game League of Legends. Presentation!

We turn off the screen, we are going to play

Riot Games likes code names. After Project L which became 2XKO, a fighting game with the characters of League of Legends, it's Project K that is being revealed. For the occasion, it was Chengran Chai, the executive producer, and Dave Guskin, the game director, who appeared on camera to present it. For once, this game is not a video game! It is indeed a collectible and playable card game, similar to TCGs like Magic, Pokémon, Dragon Ball, Final Fantasy, or even Yu-Gi-Oh. Note that this is not a physical adaptation of Legends of Runeterra but a new project that draws various elements from the entire license.

For a little over four minutes, we can appreciate the main lines of this project which will materialize from 2025. It will allow playing 1 vs 1 of course but also 2 vs 2. In any case, the team keeps in mind the development of the competitive aspect in order to grow the community and maintain interest around the game. But you can also enjoy it in complete relaxation, the goal being to have a game that primarily allows gathering. We can even discover four decks already planned. Each is related to a LoL champion, namely in this case Viktor, Volibear, Yasuo, and Jinx. The team promises to invest in it to offer the best possible experience. This will also include localization of the cards.

To ensure the experience is optimal, the release will be staggered. The first audience that will be able to enjoy it as early as next year will be China, as Riot Games has already found a partner for the printing and distribution of the game. The studio is looking for other partners to ensure distribution in the rest of the world. Those who will be at the TFT Macao Open will even be able to discover the first decks. If you cannot attend, know that the English version of the limited edition Arcane box will be available for pre-order on Riot Merch.
