A few days after the revelation of the next Call of Duty, Activision is back at it again. Now that everyone has had a glimpse of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Campaign, which promises to be as dynamic as it is epic, it's the turn of the DMZ mode, which is making its big return, to be revealed. Attention, the development team is confident, this mode is set to represent the most accomplished extraction experience of the franchise.

A highly anticipated episode

October 23, 2026, will be a big day for everyone interested in the Call of Duty franchise, as that's when the new installment will land on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 (for the very first time), and Xbox Series X[S. As always, it's clear that the competitive multiplayer mode will attract many eyes and increase the game hours of players. However, it won't be its only asset, far from it. Indeed, as we saw a few days ago, this new installment will feature a Campaign mode whose trailer has piqued curiosity.

With visuals that are increasingly photorealistic, especially since this episode is only planned for the latest generation machines, and its more realistic approach to combat, the scripted mode could deliver quite a punch. This is especially true as the dark and threatening universe depicted suggests a more in-depth storyline, in addition to increasingly cinematic scenes. In simpler words: we can't wait to play it!

A complete experience

The other anticipated game mode is the famous DMZ. It was precisely this mode that was presented at the conclusion of the recent Xbox Games Showcase. A true standalone experience, the DMZ mode is an extraction shooter. It's not entirely new, as it was introduced in November 2022 in Warzone 2.0. The development team, strengthened by feedback received at the time and from subsequent beta test phases, has been able to rework the whole to offer a completely reimagined approach. In broad strokes, players will be led to explore Hajin, an exclusion zone taking the form of a large sandbox. The icing on the cake is that it will be alive. Between rival factions and roaming patrols, danger will be everywhere.

Playable both solo and in squads, this mode will allow participation in various scripted missions, in addition to dynamic operations with multiple objectives. Its random encounters will blur the line between PvP and PvE. Even though the structure will be more framed to serve the storyline, it will still be possible to enjoy a free mode to explore the game area without any limits. In any case, you'll need to be well-prepared before each deployment as each game will be different, whether in terms of risk-taking, objectives to achieve, encounters, weather, or loot to collect. Regularity will also pay off as progression will spread over time.
