It's no surprise, but the excitement is there. As part of Season 4 of Battlefield 6, Electronic Arts is introducing content related to the Top Gun franchise. This is an opportunity to pilot two new aircraft, enjoy two new game modes, and fly over Wake Island, the new map straight from Battlefield 1942. To top it off, you can even try the game for free thanks to a one-week trial.
Buckle up, takeoff is imminent
Released in 1986, the first Top Gun movie marked an entire generation. Many still remember the image of young Tom Cruise wearing his pair of Ray-Bans. 36 years later, the franchise has returned to the spotlight thanks to Joseph Kosinski, the director who took over from Tony Scott, to deliver a sequel, namely Top Gun: Maverick. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is back, still played by Tom Cruise. This August 18, the franchise lands in Battlefield 6 thanks to an exceptional partnership between Electronic Arts and Paramount Games Studio.
For the occasion, the publisher has prepared a cinematic trailer that allows you to immerse yourself directly in the universe while highlighting the presence of iconic Top Gun characters. You're not dreaming; Lieutenant Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, Lieutenant Robert "Bob" Floyd, and Admiral Solomon "Warlock" Bates are part of it. Better yet, they are fully voiced by their original actors, namely, respectively, Miles Teller, Lewis Pullman, and Charles Parnell.
Study the terrain before taking flight
Before letting you take the controller or your keyboard and mouse combo in hand, Electronic Arts wants to prepare you for what's to come. To do this, the publisher has released a video of over four minutes offering a detailed preview of the content. It's an opportunity to appreciate some short clips of the actors' performances but also to enjoy images showing gameplay. Players can notably pilot two new aircraft, the F-74A Seacat and the F/A-81F Super Spectre. In addition to enjoying the Wake Island map from Battlefield 1942, everyone is invited to discover the Carrier Strike mode. Unsurprisingly, the goal is in the name, you have to take down the enemy carrier.
As for those who are active on Battlefield REDSEC, the development team adds a little surprise: a Survival mission exclusively reserved for aircraft. Finally, to celebrate this event properly while trying to entice new people to get into Battlefield 6, Electronic Arts is offering a free trial starting today, both on PC and consoles. You have a week, until August 25, to discover the latest installment of the franchise. Maybe the Top Gun content will help you succumb and opt for a version of the game afterward.
