While everyone might have thought that Ubisoft would wait until early June, a busy period for video game announcements with the Summer Game Fest (replacing E3), to unveil the future of the Assassin's Creed saga, the French publisher takes the opposite approach. Two weeks after announcing the arrival of Assassin's Creed Mirage on iOS, Yves Guillemot's company reveals exactly what Assassin's Creed Codename Red is, which your dear Quill already mentioned last year. And, unsurprisingly, it's heading to feudal Japan to discover another part of history.
Codename Red returns to the shadows, Shadows emerges
Don't call it AC Codename Red anymore, the new installment of the saga now has its official name, and it's Assassin's Creed Shadows. As was already mentioned last year, and even a few months earlier during the announcement in September 2022, this new chapter will invite us to return to the 16th century. So, head to feudal Japan to dive into this period marked by numerous conflicts as the country tries to reunify. In this context, players will meet two characters with a common destiny.
On one side, there will be Naoe, a shinobi Assassin from the Province of Iga, who will allow for gameplay mechanics based on stealth. On the other, there will be Yasuke, a powerful samurai of African origin who made history. With the latter, stealth will be forgotten in favor of fighting with large groups of enemies. Each will have their own skills, weapon options, and progression paths. Thus, the two play styles will complement each other and allow for varied enjoyment.
In any case, information being a weapon that can prove far more devastating than physical weapons, allies with special abilities will be needed to track targets, discover new areas, or simply assist our two heroes during missions. To manage the network to be built, one will also need to construct their base and customize it as they wish. When one decides to step out with their hood or kabuto, they can then embark on exploring a vast open world promising a variety of landscapes evolving with the seasons and weather conditions, all with a next-generation rendering thanks to the use of the latest version of the in-house Anvil engine.
Playing it, yes! Where? When? How?
Did the first cinematic trailer whet your appetite? Are you eager to play it? Know that you'll have to wait until November 15, the official release date. But Ubisoft will reward the most impatient ones by granting early access from November 12 to those who play AC Shadows via the Ubisoft+ program or who purchase a special edition of the game among the three that will be offered:

Finally, note that this new installment will be released on PC (Ubisoft Store and Epic Games Store), Mac (with Apple Silicon via the App Store), Amazon Luna, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
