Initiated in 2007, the Assassin's Creed franchise has come a long way since then. By varying the eras, locations, and characters, Ubisoft invites you to travel, discover, and be surprised. As the franchise heads towards its 20th anniversary, there are probably players who are not yet familiar with it or who have missed some episodes. The French publisher is therefore offering a catch-up weekend thanks to the Xbox Free Play Days operation. Six games are playable for free until April 6, and no Game Pass subscription is required.

Choice, everyone has their own creed

The formula of Assassin's Creed games has evolved over the years, not to mention some spin-offs that offered a different vision. Whether more focused on pure stealth, more oriented towards the RPG component (role-playing game) or exploration, what is certain is that there is at least one installment capable of charming you. To give you the choice, Ubisoft and Xbox have decided to highlight six games during the Free Play Days weekend. It's an opportunity to discover different eras and gameplay that retain variations. So, rather French Revolution, Victorian era, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, Viking era, or back to basics? A little extra, if one or more games please you, you can take advantage of the discounts set up for the occasion on the Ubisoft Store and the Microsoft Store to get them. The save being preserved, you can resume exactly where you left off.

Assassin's Creed Unity - Paris at the heart of the French Revolution

Last month, Jean Guesdon held a briefing to talk about the future of the franchise and the projects currently underway. In addition to announcing the remake of Assassin's Creed Black Flag and reassuring about Netflix's live-action series, the HEXE project, and the Invictus project, he specified the release that very day of a patch for Assassin's Creed Unity. Considered one of the most beautiful games in the franchise, if not the most beautiful, it has since that day gained in fluidity. Indeed, it now runs at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

In fact, if you haven't yet embodied Arno Dorian during the French Revolution, now is the time to get started. Enjoy the title in the best conditions and participate in an adventure that requires Parkour on the rooftops of Paris, enjoying the architectural richness of the city, or even entering Notre-Dame to hide in a confessional. Stealth is the watchword of this installment.

A little later, in 1868, it's on the other side of the Channel that we discover another revolution: the Industrial Revolution. This time, players meet Jacob and Evie Frye, two twins with different styles. Jacob favors action. He puts on his brass knuckles and tackles enemies in hand-to-hand combat. Evie prefers discretion and gadgets. She is notably equipped with a sword-cane to keep her opponents at a distance. Action or infiltration, each one can choose their path. In any case, the objective remains the same: to free London from the grip of the Templars.

For the 10th anniversary of the franchise, Ubisoft releases a new installment: Assassin's Creed Origins. This one is quite special because, in addition to allowing a dive into the history of ancient Egypt, it renews the formula. With more substantial content, a revamped combat system, and a much more role-playing game-focused approach, the development teams want to surprise fans to avoid a certain mechanical approach to the game. It works wonderfully, the game is praised by critics. If you haven't yet discovered the adventure as Bayek of Siwa, this weekend is the perfect time. You can succumb to the charms of Alexandria, Giza, Memphis, or even Siwa, all against a backdrop of a quest for revenge.

Faced with the success of the new formula, Ubisoft continued to implement it in the two subsequent installments. Both are also available for free as part of the Free Play Days. You can start with Assassin's Creed Odyssey. This time we leave Egypt for ancient Greece. Players gain even more freedom and possibilities. Every choice counts in evolving the scenario, whether you decide to embody Alexios or Kassandra. Then, if you want to discover an installment with a radically different atmosphere, you can opt for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, one of the most generous episodes in terms of content. In the skin of Eivor, you must conquer new lands in a universe under the influence of the Vikings.

Assassin's Creed Mirage - A Return to Basics

Forget this time the scale of the experiences presented just above. The formula returns to a more intimate game, with a more compact map and an adventure more focused on the essentials. Mirage is above all a tribute to the very first Assassin's Creed, a way to discover the franchise via a return to basics. The lifespan of the title being shorter, the free game session is limited to 2 hours.
