Assassin's Creed is a significant franchise in Ubisoft's catalog, alongside Rayman, Anno, Prince of Persia, Far Cry, Watch_Dogs, and all games under the Tom Clancy's banner. Shortly after the restructuring announcements, the French publisher wanted to reassure fans about the future of AC. A new remake is coming, a lifesaving patch is available now, ongoing projects are still in development: content manager Jean Guesdon gives us an update on what to expect in 2026 (and beyond).
2025 was a year of anticipation, a DLC, and a green light
2025 was a fantastic year for Assassin's Creed fans. The much-anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows was released on March 20th and received support that allowed a virtual return to Japan during the year, especially with the addition of the New Game+ mode. Players on Nintendo Switch 2 even got to embark on the adventure late last year with an optimized version for Nintendo's latest console. Additionally, Ubisoft confirmed that the Netflix live-action series announced in 2020 finally received the green light and released the Valley of Memory content for Assassin's Creed Mirage.
2026, full of ongoing projects
A video game requires time, care, and ideas. Therefore, between the announcement of a project and its realization, a few years may pass. That doesn't mean the publisher shelves it. So rest assured, the project codenamed HEXE is still in progress at Ubisoft Montreal. Jean Guesdon recently became the creative director of this project, ensuring his support to carry the studio's ambition and realize it. Certainly, we don't know much more, but we eagerly await this darker and narrative experience.
Another project known only by its codename, Invictus is a multiplayer PvP experience currently entrusted to For Honor veterans. This title continues to develop, with Ubisoft wanting to put players at the heart of the experience. Thus, even though we haven't seen anything yet, part of the community is involved in building a game that redefines the multiplayer approach of the franchise.
Speaking of multiplayer games, Ubisoft is also exploring the possibility of reintroducing a cooperative mode in the future. As for Assassin's Creed Jade, its development is ongoing. Besides the games, we have a little teaser about the Netflix live-action series. We will learn more very soon.
A remake of AC Black Flag and a lifesaving patch for AC Unity

The image above is worth a thousand words. Assassin's Creed Black Flag, one of the most appreciated installments in the franchise with its pirate-themed universe, is making a grand return. Jean Guesdon thus puts an end to the rumors that have been circulating for a while. A remake is indeed coming! Furthermore, we know henceforth it will be named Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced.
Meanwhile, it is Assassin's Creed Unity that is receiving a highly anticipated update. Thanks to the patch deployed today, the title is now playable at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This update gives it a much-needed new lease of life, allowing players to rediscover 18th-century Paris with greatly appreciated fluidity.
Finally, Ubisoft wants to thank all the AC Shadows fans for their incredible support since the game's release. It will celebrate its first anniversary in two weeks and has been improved throughout this year. The title is entering its final phase of support. The frequency of updates will therefore decrease to allow the team to focus on other upcoming projects. But smile, the company promises to still deploy some surprises before ending support.
