In addition to the traditional experience, including the latest installment CoD Black Ops 7, the Call of Duty franchise offers other entry points for first-person shooter enthusiasts. This includes the mobile version and Call of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play oriented Battle Royale. The latter was released in 2020. While it is very popular among fans of the franchise, it should not be forgotten that a Battle Royale-oriented mode, namely Blackout, preceded it in 2018 in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. This year, between a return to basics and a nod, CoD Warzone will welcome Black Ops Royale, a new mode presented as the evolution of Blackout.

The old-school Battle Royale mode or almost

In a constantly evolving world, always looking to add more, to enrich experiences, Activision and its studios will take a step back. Just enough to offer Call of Duty: Warzone players the chance to taste Black Ops Royale, a new mode inspired by the Blackout mode from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The reference is significant as it takes us back more than seven years, returning to what is the first Battle Royale experience of the franchise. So, with Black Ops Royale, expect a kind of return to basics, in the sense that you can forget the gulag, the gear, and the buy stations. Leave your parachute aside and put on your wingsuit to glide through the air, whether during deployment on the map (which is done using tokens or captured towers) or after a jump from a structure.

Icing on the cake, the perks system is back. However, to modernize its integration, or at least to allow a bit more flexibility for players, it does not impose fixed slots. You can therefore swap five consumable bonuses and activate them whenever you want. Don't neglect them, they can tip the balance during the game. Of course, even if Black Ops Royale is inspired by Blackout, the development team has revamped the system to integrate it into the modern gameplay we know. Rest assured, omnidirectional wall movements will be part of the game. It will even be possible to navigate on waterways and cross mudflats. Land, sea, and air vehicles will therefore be part of the game.

For battles, you will need to equip yourself. On this point, you will be invited to search for Black Ops 7 weapons with fixed build archetypes and five upgrade paths. To increase their rarity, you will need to find accessory kits. To avoid perishing too quickly, multi-level bulletproof vests will be available to wear. It will also be possible to equip yourself with the famous grappling hook and the trauma kit. The sensor dart will also be included in the package, along with killstreaks. For information, you can carry two types of equipment at the same time.

The development team plans to spice up the games by integrating optional activities and Cradle Breaches. In the first case, it will involve hunting bounties, capturing relays, or forcing safes. The reward will be commensurate with the risk taken to accomplish them. In the second case, some parts of Avalon will add an additional challenge. How? By integrating hordes of zombies! So beware of areas with a red gas... Unless you are seeking additional loot. In which case, you can rush in, head down.

To discover Black Ops Royale, head to the Avalon map from March 13, which will bring together 100 people divided into 25 squads. Note that an inter-mode event pass called Counter Skies will be in place from March 17 to April 2. As usual, it will allow you to unlock various rewards, including new operator skins and the Swordfish A1.
