June 9 is a big day for all fighting game enthusiasts enjoying 2XKO. Riot Games' title welcomes a new update that adds two characters to the roster, namely Senna and Thresh, in addition to introducing a new PvE game mode, aptly named Ascension. It's available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Let's take stock.

Between light and darkness, choose your side

Since the announcement of the project under the name Project L in 2019 and its arrival on January 20, 2026, 2XKO has come a long way. If Riot Games took its time to release this 2v2 fighting game set in the universe of League of Legends, it's because the studio implemented several testing phases to refine the gameplay based on feedback. Rather than releasing a title quickly, the development team preferred to stay true to its values to offer a game that is as polished as possible upon release. The result is a fighting game with a well-crafted roster, each character having their own characteristics. In other words, before mastering a fighter, you have to invest. To add hours to the counter while putting the strategic aspect of the fights into perspective, Riot Games regularly updates it. Thus, after the integration of Akali into the roster, two other characters join the roster on June 9, 2026.

Those who appreciate contrasts can start getting to grips with Senna. Well known to fans of League of Legends, this champion oscillates between light and darkness. Indeed, a member of the Sentinels of Light, she lost her fight against Thresh, who imprisoned her soul in his lantern. Despite this prison, Senna continued to fight, learning to master the black mist until the day she could return to life. Since then, she can adopt two forms, her human form with her relic weapon and her spectral form.

To raise the stakes, the other character integrated today is none other than Thresh. Enough to give Senna the chance to take her revenge. Beware, Thresh will not let it happen. This specter of the Shadow Isles is the wicked monster hiding under the bed. He is sadistic, cunning, and takes great pleasure in making his opponents suffer, feeding on the torments he inflicts. As we have seen with Senna, Thresh massacres them with his weapon, giving him a certain advantage in reach, before imprisoning their soul in his lantern.

Ready for Ascension?

The secret to winning in a fighting game, as in other fields for that matter, is to train, to take on ever tougher challenges. The PvE Ascension mode comes just in time. Solo or in duo co-op, you can embark on this new mode to try to reach the top. Before that, you must choose your difficulty level from the three offered, your two champions, and your fusion, which acts as a game modifier for the team.

Then, the principle is simple. If you win, you continue your ascension; otherwise, you start over from scratch. There are a few subtleties to note since the mode introduces a system of stackable optimizations that will modify the champion's kit, intermediate bosses, or even campfires near which it is good to rest for recover his health points. Of course, at the top of the Ascension is a powerful boss to eliminate, with some rewards to be gained.
