After years of waiting punctuated by rumors, spectacular leaks, and a carefully maintained radio silence, Rockstar Games has finally announced the long-awaited release date of Grand Theft Auto VI. This new chapter of the famous franchise will finally land on May 26, 2026. An announcement that caused a real earthquake in the video game world. While fans were still hoping for a 2025 release, the studio confirmed a delay of several months. This strategic choice, although frustrating for a large part of the community, is part of a firm desire to deliver a game that meets the monumental expectations it generates. Rockstar highlighted it with humility: the players' enthusiasm has been a "true lesson in humility" for the development teams.

The announcement of the launch of GTA 6 marks the end of a decade of patience. Since 2013 and the monumental release of GTA V, players have been hoping for a new episode. GTA V had redefined the standards of open-world gaming, becoming one of the best-selling and most profitable games in history. Its colossal success, both on consoles and PC, extended its lifespan for more than ten years, thanks notably to GTA Online. However, Rockstar remained discreet, letting few clues about its future projects leak. It was only in December 2023, after an announcement in November, that fans were able to discover the first official trailer of GTA 6. In less than two days, the video had already been viewed over 100 million times, proof that the wait had only heightened the public's fervor.

On May 2, 2025, Rockstar ended the suspense with a simple but firm statement: GTA 6 will not be released before May 26, 2026. Far from the initially envisioned release window, this news surprised and sometimes disappointed fans, although many praised the studio's transparency. Rockstar explained this delay by a need for additional time to refine every aspect of the game. True to its philosophy of "releasing the best possible game, no matter how long it takes", the studio insists on its desire to exceed expectations. It's an ambitious promise, but also a guarantee of quality for a franchise that has always pushed the limits of what's possible in video gaming.
